Garage Doors and Maintenance: Keep Your Door in Great Shape

When I bought my first home, I knew I was going to have to start maintaining different parts of the home to keep everything functioning properly. However, what I did not realize was that the garage door was one of these things. I decided to create this website because I had no idea how much maintenance a garage door needed and what types of maintenance. If you aren't cleaning your garage door tracks, checking for loose screws or oiling the tracks on a bi-monthly basis, I hope my website teaches you how to do this maintenance and the importance of performing it.

Don't Throw Out That Old Garage Door When You Can Repurpose It

Blog

If you have decided that it is time to have a new garage door installed, you might find yourself wondering just what it is that you are supposed to do with the old one? Sure, you can ask the garage door installers to take it with them so that they can dispose of it. You could chop it up and set it out with the trash. Then again, you might want to consider some of the following suggestions and reuse that door so that it can continue to be put to good use.

Art Canvas

Okay, so your wood garage door is not an actual canvas. However, you can cut it up into pieces that are the perfect size to hang on your walls in your home. Once you have those pieces cut, sand down the sides to prevent splinters, and grab some paint brushes. Whether you paint an intricate scene or go for the abstract art look, you should have no problem creating some custom pieces of art for many rooms of your home.

Paintball Targets

Cut your old wooden garage door into pieces small enough to handle, but large enough to paint targets on them for your paintball practice. You could decide to paint the entire piece of wood a solid color and then paint your targets on it or you can leave the background color as it is and paint the targets on. Either way, once the paint is dry, you can set the wood pieces up in your yard and start practicing.

Bed Headboard

If you do not have a headboard for your bed, you can make use of the old garage doors for that. Simply cut the wooden door down to the width of your bed so that it does not hang over the edge. You can leave the headboard as tall as you want for a dramatic look or smaller for a more simple look. Since these wood doors are heavy, you will want to make sure that you are securing it to the wall so that it does not topple over on you in the middle of the night.

As you can see, there are a lot of different things you can do in order to put that old wooden door to good use. All you need is a plan and a few tools so that you can start to get to work. (For more information on garage doors, contact a company such as Garage Door Service)
